Prayer for Father's Day

God, thank you for my dad. Thank you for the lessons I’ve learned. Thank you for the legacy of true manhood displayed in my earthly father. Thank you that my earthly father made it easier to recognize my Heavenly Father. Thank you for the blessing of being a father. I pray my kids will see You in me.  Father’s Day is tomorrow. Lord, I pray that Highpoint Church will make a statement tomorrow. I pray that Father’s Day will become a day where people come out of the... Read More

Fit Fathers of Memphis

This month I have had the extreme honor of being named as one of the "Fit Fathers of Memphis" by Health + Fitness magazine. My health is something I take very seriously, but I have a lot of fun with it as well. I believe any parent can improve the quality of life of their whole family by making efforts to become healthier. If you don't have a copy of June's issues of Health + Fitness , pick one up at your local retailer. In the meantime, check out my interview here on... Read More

Obviously, this is not always the intent of the person giving feedback; however, it reveals we are far more fragile than we care to admit. Let’s face it, criticism... Read More

Is your wife a "leaky roof?"

"...a quarrelsome wife is like the constant dripping of a leaky roof. ...but a prudent wife is from the Lord. (Proverbs 19:13, 14 NIV) As I was reading my Proverb of the day, a practice I've been doing for years, I came across this passage. Usually, it's a reminder of how awful some marriages are and how grateful I am for  Amanda . Yet, I was struck in a very different way by this Scripture. Here's the thought... The only reason "a quarrelsome wife is... Read More

Your future called and said, "prepare for marriage!"

It amazes me the number of people who do little to nothing to prepare for marriage. We’ve all heard the old saying, “failing to plan is planning to fail.” This is often true for marriage, especially today. Perhaps there was a day and time where the culture at large shared enough of the same values and view on marriage that preparing simply wasn’t as needed; however' those days are long gone. As I meet with couples in crisis, the common factor I see is a painful... Read More
