"Jackhammer" 2013/02/27 - KL pending
All week at the Highpoint Church campus, we have been living in a war-zone. Well not really a war-zone, but definitely a construction zone! Just down the hall from where I'm writing this blog a restroom renovation is taking place. This particular renovation is requiring that the floor be jack-hammered out in order to move plumbing around. So, all day we are serenaded by the sound of a jackhammer at work.
Believe it or not you kinda get used to it. Periodically the noise stops only to restart and make you nearly fall out of your chair! Today as I listened to the jackhammer go, I was reminded of a passage of Scripture. Ezekiel 36:26 "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh." Reading this verse, paired with the pounding of the jackhammer was a stunning reminder of God's work in me and in you. God is faithful to work in our lives, yet His work is often the hard and laborious work of jackhammering out the stoney places of my heart.
Even though I believe the moment of Salvation is the once and for all conversion of my soul from death to life, I live in the reality of sanctification means that God is faithful to take this hardened sinner and make him into a man who reflects Jesus. This happens through the persistent, and often painful, jackhammering of God's spirit in my life. God meets us where we are but loves us too much to leave us that way. We need Him to crush the hardness of our hearts and make us sensitive to Him, to renovate the old into the new.
Where has your heart grown hard? Perhaps God is eager to start a renovation project in you? Would you be willing to open yourself up to His work trusting that the end result is a masterpiece?
Confess to God where you have grown calloused and hardened to Him and invite Him to crank up the jackhammer!
